Default Velocity stack questions

Does anyone know if the alpha tune passes emission inspection?
Do the stacks face heat soak problems because it is really pure ram air ?
Does it really provide 30whp?

It sounds like s3x. Any relevant info would be great

I've only seen the ones made by Fluid Motor Union, I wonder if these could be a potential D.I.Y. project.

- depends if they look under the hood or not.
- yes they horrible for heat soak, ram air is BS
- NO, I seriously doubt they offer any performance gain.

How is it ram air? The stock intake would have more ram air effect than velocity stacks....

it is advertised that fluid motor union first did this for pure sound and then they dynod it gaining 30whp-50whp . I am having trouble accepting that but for 50hp I would do it assuming there is some solution to the heat soak and or there is not much diff in temp between our intakes and the stacks.

agreed just trying to find info on it

i could see 30-50 WHP pretty easily... if they added NOS to the intake.

as for the link search Fluid motor union they do this and it is a custom job + alpha tune. you can also searhc "e36 s54 swap" a guy with a 325is has done a s54 swap with the stacks it looks and sound great I am just trying to figure it if the gains are valid to do it on mine

You all realize that inside the OEM INTAKE are velocity stacks right? The key to changing the values would be ID size and length of tube. Could they be made to create more HP YES could they be made to make more TQ Yes. BMW made them conservative for the reason on longevity to be in a wide and safe margin. Actually changing the VS is one of the first things that engine builders look into and change when building any motor. Look at any built s54 intake but take special notice to the size and length of the tubes. Oh and to those that said Ram Air is BS all I have to say is STOP THE NONSENSE.

1- Ram Air MOST CERTAINLY is a real world advantage. In layman's terms colder air into the motor equals more HP
2- How would ram air heat soak (again showing that you have no clue what you are talking about)? Ram Air by definition is Taking (ramming) air FROM OUTSIDE THE CAR into the intake of the car. A true ram air is a closed system pulling air ONLY FROM OUTSIDE THE CAR so where would the heat soak come into play?

Now can a true ram air with tunned velocity stacks add X HP to an s54 YES!!!!! care to look at the csl intake (larger velocity stacks) coupled with a pseudo Ram air style intake and Vila HP increase. Heck call Oscar Valez and he will tell you that with a better breathing intake and some headers and tune and he can get the s54 into CSL HP territory At fraction of the cost. So in short most of you are dead wrong!!!
