Looking for the DIY on the Camshaft Position Sensor Exhaust replacement as well as how to get the air ducts right & left off from the radiator. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...07&hg=17&fg=05
Appreciate it... Thank you 1QWK-BMR |

It's a lot easier than replacing the intake cam sensor.
No real tricks other than what was posted on the other thread but once you get it loose see if you can remove it with those small finger ratchets. I used a small 1/4" ratchet. It's really easy if you're swapping it out when you're adjusting your valves as there is a lot more room because the valve cover is off.

Well here is my follow-up so far: finally got the 5mm bolt off. Wow!!!
I will be adding some recommendations and a few pictures. When done. Got the CPS out and the new one from BMW # 13 62 7 796 054 does not fit. Progress has stalled until the stealership opens in the morning. All I can say is my back hurts, my hands are not too badly scraped, but let me tell you the only thing running through my mind the entire time is this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPzHtVhc_DU This is exactly what the German engineers were thinking... ![]() |

Solid black is the original and the light gray is the new. New one does not fit.
Suggestions please. |

Use a new O-ring (of course) as the one you pull out of the head is likely brittle like mine was. it was nowhere near as pliable as the new one, and this is a crucial oil seal, so make it right."

That looks like the right part. Make sure your old o-ring isn't still there making it really hard to fit with 2 o-rings
![]() In the picture, it appears that your o-ring is missing from the sensor. Use some oil to lube up the o-ring as well and twist/push it in.

Notes:
1. Remove cabin air filter and box 2. Remove Strut Bar (if you have one) 3. Remove oil filler cap 4. Remove crankvent hose 5. Remove Cylinder Head cover 6. 1/4 in ratchet with 5mm short bit 7. Remove the CPS unit from engine - Twist gently and pull 8. Disconnect the CPS sending wire 9. Follow in reverse to install Recommendations: 1. Allen wrench too hard to use 2. Buy or borrow the 1/4 in ratchet and the 5mm short bit 3. Leave the CPS cable on until the CPS is out of the engine 4. Clean the hole where you took the unit out 5. Add a little clean oil to the new unit and o-ring 6. Add the loctite Blue to the bolt (yes i said bolt see below) 7. Gentlemen and ladies angle of attack is everything. There is no comfortable positon. Reason there is no good DIY on this is no good way to get pictures. This is the best I could do. Thank you to all who responded. Also went to the local dealer in Raleigh and the Parts guys and the Tech on site were great. They recommended changing from the Fillister-head screw to a standard bolt (Case Hardened). 16/32 10 mm head. |
