Default Sunroof Glass Shattered While Driving - Options?

Was driving and a truck tire flew over and hit the roof shattering the sunroof's glass. Had to stop from the impact and the truck ran away. I don't want to go through my insurance. Can I just purchase the glass and will it be a simple fix? It's duck taped as of now.

Is it just the glass shattered? If so, pretty simple fix. Only 6 screws holding it on. Best bet is to look on the FS threads here. I saw a few sunroofs (glasses included) being sold every so often. If not, check your local junk yards. Stealership will charge you a pretty penny though.

ive changed a few sunroof glasses.. first point is get an OE bmw part to ensure good fitment. and bolting it it is probably easy, the worst part is going to be trying to clean all the glass up from the tracks and on top of the headliner if any got back there, which it probably will

It is an easy install, the hard part is the clean just as opey said. You don't want to run it open and potentially have a shattered piece of glass in there, you may cause further damage. Little pieces WILL wedge themselves in the worst spots

Damn, that's one of the more bizarre accidents I've heard of. You might try using a flashlight to get light to glint off the broken pieces so you can see them better.

^^ Great advice, I'm going to have to rip the tape now and vacuum it super clean. Waste of $6 of tape, but I guess if it will save me $300 in future repairs, I guess it's worth the compromise.

Yeah I was gunna say use a vaccum and get everything out you possibly can. Inspect each track very carefully for any debris/glass that can cause a jam. Best of luck to you. Also, I believe that all e46 sunroof glass fit. Not 100% sure, but pretty positive.
