Track Pads in front, stocks in rear?

I just purchased a set of front Turner Motorsport Cool Willy track pads from a member on the forum for my upcoming track day. They are true track pads, but work over a wider range of temps than most track pads, not as aggressive as PFC01's by any means.

This will only be my 2nd track day, at my first track day I barely illicited any fade from the stock pads by the end of my last run, so I clearly am not taking full advantage of my brakes yet.

That said, will I be safe using these pads just on the front for this next event (with stock pads in the rear), or should I just suck it up and order a set of rear Cool Willy pads from Turner? They recommend that I use the track pads as a set, and while I agree that's typically a good idea, what does the forum think in my specific case?

i wouldn't recommend it, but some folks have gotten away with running OEM pads at the track.

i set a pair on fire after 3 laps... YMMV

my 330 hardly used rear pads, the M3 surprisingly uses them a lot.

I'd say you are fine. Better OEMs than some of the other options out there for street pads. If you really didn't have problems with the OEM pads, you'll probably be ok for another event or so.

If you aren't running OEMs in the back, then all bets are off!

I ran racing pads in front. The rears they cut for me were wrong (Cobalt Friction) so we had to run my stock Brembo Rear pads. I could not imagine the car stopping any better. It was insane stopping power.

They are for sale with unused rears BTW to fit Brembo GT for 18 inch wheels.

I had no problems waht so ever.

I watched a night event with some m3's. Most of their rear rotors would glow red like the fronts. Other cars mostly did not run with rear rotors that looked as aggressive (did not glow red).

You will be fine. I run PFC01 with my Stoptech caliper in the front, bone stock brake in the rear and have not experienced any braking issues on the track. The only thing you might notice is your rear pad will wear faster.

Rears are OEMs, still have lots of life left in the pads. I think for this event I will stick with just track pads in the front, next event I'll probably swap rears as well.

You're asking for even more brake fade this way. The fronts will be doing all the work, which will cause the rears to fade badly (and evaporate if you get fast enough). Eventually the fronts will fade too.

Having ridden this sort of combo into a gravel trap at 115+, I can't recommend it.

I am wanting to do the same thing for single weekday events then on 2day weekend events put the pfc 01s in the rear also.

How long have you been doing that? Have you had any rotor cracking problems by doing this?

How stable is your car under hard braking? What's the greatest brake point at your local track? What run group are you?
