Default uuc system u

So im waiting for my catback to arrive for install this weekend for my 99 coupe and im trying to get a parts list together. Does anyone have experience with the system u? Any hurdles? seems like a pretty simple bolt on but from my experience with exhausts it can get interesting.

wondering about hangers, gaskets etc... help is appreciated

Installing a cat-back is an absolute walk in the park.... in theory.

It's an easy operation, but the bolts under there are bound to be rusted and possibly seized. I broke a bolt when I did mine, and it almost took my eye.

You'll love the System U, I sure did.

it s always prudent to wear safety glasses

my advice, spray down the bolts with s a rust penetrant

but spare bolts and nuts as backups just in case.. they are 8mm bolts and need to be 55mm long at least IIRC... just did this 1 month ago

If you've never touched the exhaust, just get all new bolts and gaskets for anything you'll be disturbing. It'll ensure you won't have any leaks and make things easier to take apart in the future.

Put high temp copper based anti-sieze on any nuts and bolts so you can take them apart easily in the future.

You'll likely need new hangers as well. Now is the time to replace them. Note that there are two sets of rear exhaust hanger studs on the underside of the car on the driver's side. I believe the System U requires the hanger there to be mounted to the one that's opposite of how the stock catback mounts, though don't quote me on that.

WD40, patience, arm strength, and a good lift.

Buy all new gaskets, bolts and hangars. On my 98 it needed them.

Psh. You gotta do your own groundwork like the rest of us. RealOEM.com for part numbers

WD 40 is not a rust penetrant...it s simply a lubricant...it won t help at all

Get 2 of each of these.

And I think 1 of each of these.

Then buy a few more things to get your total up to $50 for free shipping.

I hope those are the right gaskets. There was a thread by numik(?) awhile ago about having problems getting the right ones from a dealer. Something to do with the part number.

You can find stainless steel nuts and bolts at fastenal or the dealer. I couldn't find long enough SS bolts at Ace hardware.

for a REAL RUST PENETRANT: you want Kano Kroil or better yet a 50/50 mix of Acetone/ATF in a cheap spray bottle

be sure you get the 48mm gasket rings... i

they are (1 of each)
18111723720
and
18111719446

exhaust hangers
18201401797 (need 2 of these)

nuts and bolts and washers from hardware store

in order to get your order to 50 bucks, might I suggest the cowl cover plastic piece at the base of the windshield? at 125k miles, the one on my car was grey and tired and crumbling. I got a new and boy does it make my car look young and fresh.... it's just 25 bucks too from autohausaz
