Default "Cop detector" placement on the M3

I just ordered a 2003 M3 in "hey officer, notice me" Phonix yellow, and I don't know if I can resist push it to it ability on the road. So now in order to avoid those 3-4 figures tickets, I have to purchase a "counter" Radar ambush for my new baby. So my questions to you who had "been there, done that" are:

1. what is the best gismo out there for "cop detecting", is it Valentine one?

2. how big is V1 and where would it fit best on the console?

3. Anyother advice in reguard to this subject?

thanks much,

i have a v1 and it is a very good investment. everytime it goes off in K or Ka band, surely enough, i see a cop pass by. It is a little bulkier than a normal radar detector, but not too big

Default lidatek too!

Eather Val! or SR1 or SRX passport work well. In addition you have to have a lasar jammer a-la Liditek. Don't leave home without one.
By the time your radar detector tells you there is a lasar active, you have been read, the Liditek gives you five seconds to slow down.
For max protection add a scanner.

Default I agree with pj5555

A radar detector lets you know when you've been caught. A jammer/detector will give you a fighting chance. I once topped a hill at 70 in a 45 and it went to singing. the Highway patrolman was using instant on lazer at about 300 yards. I downshifted and got down to 50 before the radar overpowered my jammer. Saved me $$$$. I use the Rocky Mountain Radar C-302. It cost around $350. Good Luck.

Default Rocky Mountain Radar C-302

I read that the owner of this company said if he shipped out empty black boxes with 12oz of lead in them, only about 30% of them would get returned.

This type of "Passive" jammer has questionable performance at best from what I have read.

Prove me wrong, I'll buy one. However, most of what you read says these things absolutely do not work. Do you have any more real world experiences with this "Jammer" that would shed light on whether they work or not?

Default Good Luck with Rocky Mountain

I have had a Rocky Mountain Radar for 5 years now.

I would not leave home without it. I have only gotten one ticket since I boought it. I get hit with laser from behind on an overpass.

It has saved me at least a dozen times.

When I drive by a police man with radar he is usualy staring at his radar gun or turning it off becuase it is not working.

I will not use any other radar detector. Even bought my wife one.

Rocky Mtn products users, lets hear it.

Do you really think they work? Virtually nothing except ad hype says the "Passive" types work. The only "Active" type with proven results is the Lidatek.

I would buy one tomorrow, but I just think its a pipe dream.

Prove me wrong, you will make me very happy.

Any "clinical" test data would be appreciated

Default K-40

Has any of you owned the K-40? I was told by a car electronics shop in Greenwich CT that the K-40 radar detector, when teamed with the K-40 Laser diffuser, is better than any of the portable units being offered. (That includes V-1 and Escort) The K-40 radar and Laser Deffuser Plus combination is installed and made part of the instrument cluster of your vehicle.

Any thoughts before I send my M3 for surgery?

Default To Learn More about Radar Detectors

Check out this site. It has a lot of reviews of both the detectors and the jammers.

http://www.speedzones.com

Look under the legality section. It claims that no passive jammers work. Only active! They claim there are 2 Phantom RCD or the Scorpion. They are easy to find by searching google.com. They run about $600.

The laser jammers do work. There are 4 they claim works - Beltronic Laser Pro 904, Laser Blinder, Escort ZR3 and K-40 Laser DefuserPlus.

This site is good reading, Enjoy.

Here is some marketing materials from a retailer that sells the RMR system. There are PHDs, police, etc that make comments. But again this is marketing.

http://www.007radar.com/expert_analysis.htm

So call me superstitious. I have a Phantom (Not Phantom RCD). But it has kept me safe over the years. I am going to have a hard time getting rid of it.
