Default Light whistling sound on 1/2 throttle?

Although It doesn't seem to affect performance It's got my mechanic perplexed (BMW shop). At half throttle I hear a light air like whistling sound which goes away at higher rpms, almost sounds like a turbo. Anyone heard of this before?

do you happen to have a BBTB or perhaps the m50 manifold

other than that vacuum leak.

i had the same thing, it's caused by a CAI generally, unless it's a vacuum leak. smoke test that ****, if it isnt a vac leak and u have a cai that's your issue, live with it =\. my bbtb didnt add the squeak, neither did my m50.

I've had this noise on occasion. Like most E36 noises, it went away randomly.

I actually sort of have this sound too. But I would say its less of air-y whistle, and more of a very high pitched metallic squeaky whistle(if that makes any sense ).

In for ideas..
