Default The next M3 will be called...the M3

As most have heard or read the next M coupe may have been a 3 or 4 series and other rumors that they may realign the series for even numbered cars with 2 doors and odd numbered cars with 4 doors. Well in new Automobile magazine they are reporting that the M will keep the M3 name because it has too much market equity in the name. They are also reporting that "the current M3's in-line six will give way to a 400 hp V8 weighing no more than the outgoing six, fewer moving parts, substantially reduced friction and a lightweight valvetrain will create superfast throttle response and an unparalleled willingness to rev. And an ever quicker double vanos camshaft-adjustment device, one instant-on throttle blade per cylinder and an even more refined, g-force-defying lubrication system." Hopefully this is all fulfilled upon production, and to think all the people were doubting BMW in the production of a new M3.

I should stop spending money on mods and save......

They gave the roundabout answer, the 3 series will be out in the fall of 2005 and we will probably have to wait about a year for the M3, there was also a picture that had the 'Bangle style' front end similar to the new 6, I don't know if it wad a real picture or a concept type but it didn't look too bad although you couldn't see the rear end of the car.

If I find out Bangle was not part of the design team I'm saving from today.

That was basically it, except the mention of the csl with 440hp. It was a small article.

Strong post IE,

I assume with the sizeable contingent of ///M owners being oriental- and that the number 4 carries significant bad luck in certain oriental circles- that the M3 moniker would have to remain intact. This fact coupled with the brand equity investment should signify the return of the alphanumeric combination we all love....///M3.
