Default Convertible top not repelling water

I have treated the top with Rapptop with 2 coats following the instructions. I noticed water beads nicely with a few drops, but still got quite wet when I hosed it down during car wash.

I was just wondering if that is normal?

Raggtop will work great for your general rain but when you are soaking it, it is a fabric and will absorb some. It can't be perfect from what I understand.

That made sense - guess I won't have to apply additional coats.

Since it is normal to get soaked during car wash, would the water get inside the car through the top?

I did notice that it dried up fast when I wiped with a rag.

There is an inner and outer layer to the top. If i am not mistaken, the inner layer is not porus, thus preventing Water to get through.

It's not the top you gotta worry about, it's the seams lol. Wife took it through the car wash just to see what'll happen, everything went fine until the end when the pressure washer picked up tons of pressure to wash the soap off. Yeah....it was kinda moist inside the car lol. Not much got in, to my surprise, but enough to make you not want to go through another pressure wash.

I've often wondered this up until I sold my e46, I didnt worry about it, the water NEVER got in so why is it an issue. Sounds like your wasting money on rain repellant and need to worry about driving it more and enjoying the M

No that isnt smart advice... RaggTopp is the best thing you can do for your top to not just help it repel water, but to also protect it from wethering and from seam damage.

Treat it with RaggTopp twice a year and apply 3 coats minimum to the top, allowing it to dry in very hot sunshine for 15 minutes between coats...

It is well worth the expense to extend the life of your top, a replacement is very expensive not only to buy, but to have installed as well...

I agree 100%. We want to keep the top well and it is expensive.

Raggtop comes with the cleaner and conditioner (water proof). Do you use the cleaner along with the conditioner only or use it once a month or so? I wonder if the cleaner would remove the conditioner from the top?

Another question, does the top really have a water-proof second layer under the fabric? If so, then water leaking inside is not an issue.
