Default Another Interior LED thread

I purchased the interior LED kit from Khoalty for my e46 02 m3. I installed all of the LED's and of course they would not work. I contact them and did some research and they said to try it with one halogen bulb installed, and sure enough, the LED's were working. They said that if that does the trick, I need to install a resistor to mimic the draw that a halogen would have, because the LED's do not draw enough power.

I purchased a pack of 100 ohm 1/4 watt resistors, and 100ohm 1/2 watt resistors. I followed the instructions for where to install them and how from a few threads I found at e46fanatics. Still nothing has worked. I tried installing the resistors in line as well with the bulb by using splice connectors and wiring the resistor/soldering it on to wire leads. Still nothing worked. So here is my question.

What size resistor should I be using? Where is the proper place to install this? Does anyone have a definitive solution to this problem. Thank you all for your help. I know this has been asked a couple of times at the very least, but everyone has different kits and I have not come up with a solid solution just yet. Thanks

i noticed that the led bulbs plugged needs to be in certain directions, have you tried flipping the other way around?

I have all bulbs facing the right direction. I know this because I still have one halogen in which allows them to work. The trick is figuring out what size resistor would mimic the stock halogen bulb in such a way that the car lets the lights work.

So what size resistor do I need in order to remove this one last halogen and install the final LED.

Can't remember size, but the issue with E46 cars is the passenger side footwell. Install a resistor in that area and you should be fine. The resistor i once had was purchased from F1Autohaus. NO issues after that.

So your saying that installing the resistor on the passenger side foot well will work as apposed to the driver side. I did the driver side and the over head lamp, but I did not try the passenger side.

Will give this a shot today. I honestly didnt think that would make any difference.

I should add, that the passenger foot well is the one with the halogen still installed.

Question LEDs

I had the same problem with my DIY LED setup. I installed my LEDs and all no workie! The problem is the too low resistance of the LEDs which necessitates a resistor. So, I ordered a resistor from Khoalty.

After wiring it in, (in line in the drivers side footwell) ALL the LED lights worked. However, the resistor got so hot in just a few seconds it burned my finger to where it left a mark for a few days. My point is that it concerned me to the point that it may cause some kind of weird electrical meltdown/fire so I took it out and just left 1 incandescent bulb in the drivers footwell.

My guess is that I think a couple of resistors are needed, but right now one bulb not being LED doesn't bug me too much.

FYI, here are some resistor load wiring instructions from another site.

The LED's should already have at least a 500 ohm resistor in series with the LED's. LED's can't take a 12V source directly or they will burn up.

Yes, passenger side is the issue, i cant remember the reason, but installing a resistor on this side will solve your problem,

Cheers.
