Default Inspection necessary?

Hi, I bought my 2006 m3 a couple months ago I'm at 37,000 miles and it says I need inspection in a couple 100 miles, when I called the dealer he checked my vin and said inspection 1 was done and inspection 2 won't be necessary for a while. So why does my car say I need inspection? Thanks

if the service records show that its been done, then u most likely dont need it.

They prob forgot to re-set the counter.

U can go back to the dealer, or actually to another dealer, give them your vin and they should be able to give you a print out.

your cluster just says Inspection, it does not say I or II. Since you are at 37K, then you are probably due for Inspection II.

Call and ask about service history on your car and see the exact mileage when Inspection I was done. This is the only way to know for certain. Most people have their Inspection II done between 40k-60k mark, it all depends on how hard the car was driven.

Technically, the computer bases the counter on the amount of gas that is consumed. But I agree, it sounds like you need an Inspection 2. The car probably had a high number of city mileage.

I know how to reset the cluster. I'm trying to figure out if I should do the inspection or not.

So you think I should do the inspection? The dealer said I should do it at around 55-60k?

you need to know when inspection I was done to be certain.

you can go ahead and do Isp II and just keep track of your service history from that point on so you do lose track.
