Default E36 window problems

I have a 1998 M3 Convertible that is giving me problems with the driver side window. At times it works fine, other times it will move 1/2" down and stay in the open position as I am driving down the road. Other times it will go up and down as if the door was opening and closing while I am driving down the road. If the road is super smooth its less likely to do it, if it is on a bumpy road it is more likely to demonstrate one of the problems.

thank you for any help or advice,
-ben

Definitely sounds like intermittent contact switch or something. I have no experience with anything like this (or really even the windows for that matter) but if you think about it, (when its working properly) you pull the door handle and the door kind of pops outward which then breaks a switch which causes the window to pop down a little bit. I've never looked for that switch but I can't imagine its hard to find.

Just a guess but if no one else has any experience then its a place to start.

On e30's I used to just pry the window switch up and out of the console. Then spray down the side of the buttons with c-26 electrical lubricant. Shake it around and then blow it out real good. Let it sit overnight, or a few hours at least... Reconnect, and that usually solved that problem like a charm. Not sure if that works on e36 switches, but it's worth a try.
