Default Help idenifying a noise

I was backing out of my driveway and heard a loud snap as I went down the curb, I though my car had just bottomed out. I got out and checked under and noticed the bottom strut bolt on rear left rear had snapped and my strut was just hanging there. I went and got a new bolt and put it back on but I still have a hollow knocking sometimes at slow speeds and bumps. Any idea what else this could be?

Sounds like it could be!

Pull the carpet out of the way in the trunk and check to see if there is any movement in the shock... then make sure everything is torqued up.

Was just ripping that apart as we speak I got it off and everything looks to be ok. Should or should that actual mount look different if it was messed up?

Put the car on a jack stand, put the jack under the tire, center carefully, put just enough pressure on the wheel to move the tire up from resting. Grab a hold of the tire on both sides, then to and bottom and see if you can feel play. Have an assistant watch the RSM as you manipulate the wheel. If that sucker moves at all I would replace it.

Good luck

I went through and did that it didnt move after I took it all out and tightened it back down. Went for a drive to see if it was fixed and after about 1 lap around the block, it started back up. What could be the next thing to check. RTAB or possibly a broken spring? I have KW v2's so I dont know how likely that would be

Did you change out the RTAB's? Because if you don't lube the shiiiit out of those things then they can definitely act up. They make sort of a banging noise though. How about your subframe? A failure somewhere in the rear subframe could me making some interesting noises as well.

No I ordered RTAB's and FCAB's today so I will be replacing all those next week. I made my gf ride in the back seat with the back left seat down and listen and she said its coming from "under the trunk" then she said it sounds like its above my tire, so I ordered some new shock mounts as well. Hopefully 1 of those 2 will fix it, and its no my subframe.

I'm at my Indy shop and they can't find the sound at all they drove it without the rear strut and it still made the noise, then they checked the subframe and nothing was wrong. Does anyone else have any possible idea of what could be making a noise like this in the rear? It sometimes feels as if the axle is about to fall out.

Sway bar end link? And make sure your lug nuts are all torqued down. Also check to make sure that the area where the bolt snapped it not damaged.
