I am looking for a list if tools that everyone uses to work on their vehicles. I'm going to start my collection.
I understand that this is a vague question, but if you would list the tool an what it's importance is it would be greatly appreciated. Example: Craftsman Torque Wrench (some model) - what you use it for. I think this thread could be used by many to see what the best tools are for a particular job. You definitely need the tools to remove the fan clutch. This also allows you to replace the water pump too. A must have--I need these tools myself!! It's like a long pulley holder and a big 35MM? open end wrench. Haha

1) 7mm hex (doesn't usually come in a normal allen set) for replacing pads
2) protected lug bolt sleeve

This could potentially be a very useful thread. Would be great if some of the regular track guys could chime in.

For the normal DIY maintenance: low profile jack, 3/4 hex set, torque wrench that ranges from 15-150 lbs
The skys the limit as far as tools go for cars... OP, did you go to Iowa? I'm starting my grad program(MBA) there in January.

1. 17mm 1/2" drive socket for the wheel studs, oil drain bolt, and tranny drain/fill bolts.
2. A collection of Torx sockets (might as well get the ones with the hole in the center, or you will end up getting 2 sets) 3. 22mm Hex Socket (for the rear diff drain/fill plugs) 4. A big C-Clamp to compress the brake caliper pistons
