Default Xenon light autolevel motor went out!

Well, I've had the M for 3 months and something finally broke. Installed angel eyes yesterday and while checking them for movement clearance I realized that my drivers side auto level option has stopped working. Checked the plug and all is where it should be. I am not findning the motor only so I assume I just need to buy a new headlight, sadly. Anyway, I pulled the harness off the passenger side for now so it doensnt look odd with one working

Check to see if the lights move up and down when you start the car. If so, check under the passenger side suspension where the level sensor bar is. Usually those break off when suspension work is done or something broke it.

Is there a way to get just the arm or is the level sensor one piece?

One does....does that count? . Just the passenger side moves...driver side is stationary. I am just thankful it got stuck up.

Lets think about this.

1. You installed angel eyes - which requires disassembly of the headlight assembly.
2. People have reported angel eyes blocking the up/down movement of the headlight reflector assembly.

Rule#1 of troubleshooting: LOOK WHERE YOU LAST WORKED!

The leveling didn't break - you broke it somehow. You should be trying to figure out how, and if it's repairable. The level sensor is just fine since one moves up down. When the sensor arm breaks - the headlights point at the ground about 5' in front of the car. That isn't the case.

Review #1 and #2 - and some thought should lead you right to where the problem is.

Get 'em.

+1 Sounds like the two may be correlated. If it is the motor though, the unit can be disassembled, but you can buy a used headlight assembly for cheap enough and just swap the lenses if yours is in better condition.

Wow, quite the response. Not one I expected from a mod. Although, I do understand how many idiots you deal with every day. My guess is that you were assuming I was another one. (At least that is how you talked to me)

I found out about the autolevel yesterday when I was installing the angel eyes and was checking them for clearance. I don't drive too much at night and my lights are not set to auto so it's anyone's guess how long it hasn't been working. My 6000k bulbs came in yesterday, so I installed them and did a little more looking while I had the opportunity. There is no noise coming from the motor. There IS a noise on the driver side. Loud? No, but there.

So as you say, "Let's think about this"

I knew it wasn't the sensor because the passenger side was still working. Sensor. Check

There is plenty of clearance for the angel eyes as I mentioned in the original post I was checking it. I actually had to cut the inner bezel to make sure everything lined up correctly and there would be no issue with them moving down and up. (thankfully it was all up top so If I ever pull them out, you won't see it) I'm a perfectionist and I wanted everything to be centered and even on both lights. I like things done right the FIRST TIME so I don't have to do it again. Clearance. Check.

The harness was plugged in and the arm inside the headlight is intact. It's either wiring or motor. Either way, I'm not too concerned with it since the lights are at the correct height. If the arm had broken either on the sensor or in the headlight, it would be another story, but for now, both plugs are disconnected and the lights work just fine. I'll do a little more investigating in a couple days when I have some time, but I'm still going to stick with a faulty motor.

So, as you can see I DID LOOK WHERE I LAST WORKED!! I may have done this a time or two People call ME to trouble shoot their cars. Why? I've been working with cars awhile and I'm pretty good at pointing people in the right direction.

The leveling DID break and I DIDN'T BREAK IT! I did a search before I posted...and If you read, I really didn't ask for a "what do I need to look at to fix it?" I had already done the troubleshooting.

I just had one of those days. The cat woke my fiancee and I up by peeing on our comforter. Blood in the urine. Rushed to vet because I was pretty sure it was a UTI. It WAS a UTI. $163 vet bill. Come home to a hole in the middle of my carpet because the dogs (puggle and husky) decided they wanted to dig a hole in the middle of the living room floor, so I get to pull up the carpet in the living room this week and replace it.

I just wanted to complain I was expecting a "that sucks" or a "that happened to me" but not a "you need to think because you are an idiot and put on some over played angel eyes and F'ed up the headlight."

Oh, and they may be overplayed, but they look oh so sexy. (I know, I know!!! I need to put some stealth bulbs in the signal housing. It is next on my list) I have to pic ***** a little

CSL is overplayed. Every other car on this site has CSL parts on it....but there is a reason for it. It looks good.

Reading the additional info - I'd agree. And since the level is correct, if it was me - I'd forgeddaboutit..

Actually the leveling WAS broken - and that's what wasn't clear from your original posting. And that's why I gently suggested looking where you last worked. (I had just finished another reply to another angel-eye install gone bad.. so it was the day for it..)

OK.

THAT SUCKS!

Hope that makes you feel better. And about the cats and dogs..

HAHAHAHA! One of the best/funniest responses I've ever gotten!

I agree 100% on just forgedd[ing]aboutit. I put some electrical tape over the connections on both sides for now and it will probably stay like that. I only plan on keeping the car for a year or so.

As far as the pets, I have two nice little throw rugs. Atka (husky) is in the kitchen and Maya (puggle) is in the bathroom. They look nice I let the cat live because he is sick.

I do feel better. Thank you!
