your tires as much as your attentiveness saved your a$$ and thank goodness that was the case
I have the hankook v12s but my right-rear is a slick at the moment. I was going to get that done tomorrow. Lifted truck drivers FTL. What's the saying? "Big truck for a little man?"....

Hey, glad you're OK. It's all about anticipation and caution, right. Regardless of whether you have the 'right of way'.

I've lost count of the number of times that I've said to myself, if I hadn't eased off there, that would have been me.

There are too many idiots out there who seemingly have no thoughts or consideration for anyone else.

Thanks for sharing your scary experience. Hope it keeps another forum member safe after reading this.

Glad you are OK. Close calls always shake you up.

I'm with ya on the lifted trucks. I've been on a rage lately against them. As much as I hated living in Florida, they did a much better job of keeping these ridiculous vehicles off the road than does CA. They drive like idiots, can't see ANYTHING on their right, and always seem to improperly "upgrade" their lights so that they end up blinding everyone on the road.

I'm happy to see you made it out mostly unscathed.

Re: pickup trucks-

I drive a '94 Toyota 4x4 on slightly oversized tires, etc... I made sure to readjust my headlights to aim properly and not blind people, I can still see out of all my mirrors perfectly, and I don't drive it like an idiot. I never understand people who drive trucks like that.

In the snow, there have been precisely four times that some idiot has passed me while I'm traveling at a safe speed, only to have me find them a mile or so ahead in a ditch. I stop and make sure they're ok, but I refuse to pull them out even if they offer me money. Let them get a tow truck. Hopefully it's a crap tow driver and he destroys their car. Mean? Yep. Not as mean as driving so irresponsibly that they put others' lives on the line.

I've even had people pass me in the snow, only to have on-coming traffic come around a corner. Guess where that person on my (now) left is trying to go? Right into ME! I've had people run me off the road before! That's when I'm thankful for ground clearance!

Long story short: People will never learn. They're always in more of a hurry than you are, and always willing to risk others' lives to get there before you do.

I barely was able to stop after hydroplaning for about 50 feet and stopping within 5 feet of the injured accord.

Defensive driving FTW. You can be the most skilled driver on the road, but it doesn't do any good if you're not watching out for other drivers, too. Growing up with The '83 (see sig) as my first car taught me a *lot* about driving defensively since you're so much more vulnerable in a high COG, open top vehicle. Motorcycle riders know what I'm talking about. If you're not constantly aware of (and making adjustments for) other people's actions on the road, you can end up squished and never even see it coming.

And as for the whole against lifted trucks, obviously not everyone that drives a lifted vehicle is a maniac redneck, but sadly in the truck world it is far too cheap and easy (4x4 fence post lift blocks and Home Depot u-bolts, anyone? ) to make modifications that seriously compromise your vehicles steering and braking ability. No doubt the same mind that told the OP's reckless truck driver to steer across all lanes of the interstate without signaling or yielding also encouraged him to build a truck with suspension, wheels and tires that the stock brake and steering systems couldn't control.

Jackhole.

Glad you're ok man. I know what you feel. Yesterday some guy almost crashed into me from the drivers side. I was stopped at a red light and all I see in my drivers side mirror is a Daewood loosing control. Luckily he regained control of the car as he got closer to me. When the light turned green, he floored it only to loose control again

Hey glad you're ok. That could've been a lot worse for you. I've had nothing but bad experiences with people in trucks and SUVs lately. The other day, I was trying to merge on the 101 and this 4Runner sped up on purpose to prevent me from merging. I wasn't racing, revving or driving in any provocative way whatsoever! Simply merging at about 50mph. In the old days, I would've followed him to his destination but you never know what people pack in their glove boxes these days, especially in LA so I just let it go. Life is too short to let anger get the best of you.

Agreed. If I got angry at everything that happened on the road here in this godforsaken place, I wouldn't be here. I seriously can't wait to leave this hellhole that is crapifornia.

it's the rule: if u have a lifted pick up truck u have to drive it like a balls out badass or else.

almost got involved in an accident with "one of those guys" last winter. I saw it coming and slowed down like you. He proceeded to drive like a maniac until doing a 720 in the middle of 3 lanes. After that, I gave him the ol' 1-2 honk.
