Default Hood Insulation Pad

My hood insulation pad has a tear right above the front of the cylinder head and also has some gunk in the same area, and just looks dirty. Is that part only for sound insulation? Or does it protect the hood paint from the heat also? I'm wondering if I should buy a new one (~90) or just take it off and call it a day?

Thanks.

Sound, heat and it offers some fire suppression. I have had mine off for years, but recently noticed with the supercharger it will steam off water when it rains...

just take it off and be done with it,
i've had mine off for a while now and no problems

if you think about it, the shock tower paint has no clear coat and it's directly
exposed to engine heat

btw, i got a s/c as well and i notice the steam coming off the hood when it rains
i think it's real cool and i wish i could capture it on photo in an artsy way haha

So if you take it off, how do you hide the wire for the engine bay light?

(yes, I have an engine bay light...lol) I'd just get a new one because it looks so much better. Every time I see an M3 without it, I think "there's another car going down the road to P.O.S. status."

i don t agree with this...

I could see how someone living in a cold climate would want this part removed... I recently rented both an 08 MDX and 10 Accord and could notice how during driving, the snow/ice melted off the accord hood and not on the MDX...........Sure enough, the MDX has hood insulation and the Accord does not

btw, did you wire up the engine bay light or was the car pre-wired? I know the hood insulation has the cutout there for the light but the blank needs to be knocked out

Take it off and thow it away. No harm done and you'll love the engine sound.

I am thinking about doing it just for the engine sound. Is it really noticeable? Intake get louder?
