So I bought a 01 M3 cab with a single CD Business radio in it with no CD changer. In the service records an unknown iPod adaptor was installed by the dealer in 06' and I have a white non genuine iPod cable in the glove box. When I hook up my iPhone it says sometimes that the accessory is not optimised and other times it shows a picture of an iPod and that the acessory is connected. Then I have no iPod control within the iPhone.
Question is I have no idea how to get it to work and I have no idea what brand of iPod adaptor it is? I know there is DICE but is there others? I have disconnected the cars battery for a few minutes and after reconnecting tried pushing every button on the Business CD player. I have heard you have to be on CD 5 or 6 to get it to work but I cant seem to get the CD player off of the single CD that is in the slot. Short of ripping the car apart looking for a module do you guys have any other suggestions on what to try? TIA |

Ok so I took apart the drivers side of the trunk and there is nothing plugged into the CD changer wiring harness. I took out the glove box and found the iPod cable going to in behind the Business CD player.
Do any of these details help any of you figure out what iPod adaptor kit I have? |

If a BMW ipod adapter was installed then there will be an interface module mounted in behind the head unit. There's a DIY posted on the Madrussian's site for the install of that adapter kit for reference that's really good.

what happens when you try to play the ipod?
1. do you have access to the controls on the ipod or is it frozen? 2. does the amber screen on your radio say something like "1-3" playlist 1, track 3?

The car gas been parked all winter so I am now just starting to revisit this issue. The iPhone I am using seems to freeze up. I have no control and cannot access and songs or playlists to play?
I tried hooking up an early iPod classic with BMW1 playlist on it and no die there either. Any further suggestions? I am considering getting an new aftermarket iPod interface but I am reading horror stories on the Media Bridge and Dice kits. Are there any other alternatives out there? Should I consider buying a newer buisiness radio so I can get the aux input that my 01' does not have and jusyt be done with it? |
