I think the $2800-$3000 price range is fair. Some shops decide to swap the DME and recode it if the swap coding doesn't go well. The last one we did we coded the DME and the car is perfect. Coding can take a couple attempts to get perfect. This was new clutch/flywheel, shifter, all factory parts. Everything functions properly, DSC, ABS and Cruise Control.
Customer was very happy, he had been through some issues with SMG and wanted to switch. We have another one coming in after the New Year.

Once you start getting above $2000 you might want to start thinking about getting another car. you can fix the SMG issue for less than that and if your set on a manual just part out your car and trade it in for a manual. I would do it for 1500 max anything more than that i would trade in my car.

That might cover cost of parts and machining work. Doesn't include the labor for the swap or the time to code.

i have threads upon threads and links beyond the average member. there is a lot of work that is needed. to give an example i bought a prelude back in 1997 and bought the "triptronic" trans over the manual. very simular to the SMG/manual issue we have now. I paid 3500 for the swap from trip to man back in 97. I actually got a feature from super compact car magazine. What i learned from this example was just trade your car in if you want manual that bad. that was almost 15 years ago....

Agreed. On cars like ours it's not worth it. Just sell your car and get a 6MT.
