So I got my first BMW and without much knowledge I did not do a PPI. So I heard the "normal M clunk" from the diff...after 10-15 min of searching I decided to go under there and... what do you know? loose diff bolts... I torqued them to spec.... but I still wasn't satisfied with the noise from the rear end...
So I took it to a well known shop here in the Sacramento area... (off Sunrise in Rancho Cordova) I had them do a full inspection and I have 2 issues a) yaw sensor is bad fault code A1 b) hairline cracks on the subframe. I was quoted $899 for yaw and $1453 for subframe. I bought the car about a month ago and by now is not covered under the "subframe recall" ending in 10/2010. I did not purchase a warranty. At this point I need some suggestions from shops in the area where I can have the subframe repairs done. (looking for a better price) Please point me in the right direction... As far as the yaw sensor. I think I can unbolt a seat and replace the sensor myself. Or is there a catch to it??? Any input is highly appreciated... If you don't mind the drive to Pleasanton, a few guys on the forum have taken their cars to Performance Technique for subframe reinforcement and they're very happy with the service and result. I'm actually going to be out there tomorrow.
Good luck. |

It's not a one day project unless you're paying somebody properly to make it a one day project. It also depends on how severe your subframe is ripping. If it's severe, you're going to need replacement floor pan(s) from BMW.

What dealer did you buy it from? I would at least go ask them to fix the sub frame.

I can vouch for the pleasanton shop as well. Performance Technic did my subframe reinforcement. They documented the subtle cracks well enough for me to have the repair completely paid for during the settlement period......even mileage (at $0.25/mile). To add some reference my first point (stay away from the dealer), my car was inspected twice. By two different dealerships. The cracks were corroding so they had been there for quite some time. The dealer service dept. is good at throwing new parts (or systems) at cars. That's all they do. |

I bought the car from a place called elite motors in Daily City. I declined their used car warranty (additional 1500 and from what I hear, third party warranties DO NOT cover most of our issue) and I did not do a PPI... In other words I f*^%d myself...
I already tried contacting the BMW dealer in sacramento and they obviously declined liability for the repairs. So pretty much it comes down to me having to repair it... at this point i just want to find the best value... cost and quality of the labor. The shop where I took it for an inspection said that it just started cracking and it has not separated yet but it will be highly recommended to address the issue ASAP to prevent further damage. |
