Default e90 M3 Race Car Project

Hi All -

After the successes of our e46 M3 and 135i race car projects, driver Ralph Warren talked me into trying and e90 M3. I figured I had at least one more race car build left in me.

So we'll try to document the build, development and racing progress for you on this thread. We've already started the process so I'll try to keep things in correct chronological order as I post.

For this project, we'll be teaming up with Maxxis Tire and their brand new R-Compound tire, the RC-1, which will be available soon:
http://www.maxxis.com/

On this new race car, we'll also be teaming up with these great performance vendors:
Akrapovic Exhaust
http://www.akrapovic.com/
StopTech Brakes
http://www.stoptech.com/
Apex Wheels and AST Suspension
http://www.apexraceparts.com/

Also pitching in with some support will be:
Total Lubricants, USA
http://www.total-us.com/
Bullet Performance
http://bulletmotorworks.com/
Sparco USA
http://www.sparcousa.com/
Eibach Springs
http://performance-suspension.eibach.com/
HP Autowerks
http://hpautowerks.com/
Crevier BMW
http://www.crevierbmw.com/
VS Engineering
http://vsetrack.com/
Tsovet Time Instruments
http://www.tsovet.com/

and I'm sure we'll be adding some more special products along the way.

But before we can do anything, we need a car. What we found is a wrecked, salvage title (what better to gut and turn into a race car) 2008 e90 sedan in Silverstone with manual and only 11K miles on the drivetrain.

Subscribed. I might turn my E90 into a full fledged track car one day so this should be interesting. Good luck!

More pics

Rear bumper area after being repaired. You can see the mangled old lower trunk lip piece that has the tail light holes. We have the bumpers and rocker panels painted in our special 'truck liner' paint like we did on our 135 race car

Here's a closer look at our special bumper/rocker panel paint

In between the body/frame shop and the roll cage fabrication, we stopped off at Done Right Signs for step 1 of our livery wrap. First part was to choose the right color orange. We worked with John Wu of Maxxis to help select the right orange.

We used wrap instead of paint because it is full of embedded images of track maps, etc.

Then Johnnie spent the better part of all night laying it on

Here's what it looked like in the morning on it's way to the cage fabricator

Nice Scott,

Great car to build for the track.

I have some goodies you guys could use for this car. A 2 Clutch 4.10 Diff and a Short Shift Kit. Ask John at EMW about it.

It can be as wide as the car at the rear fenders.
