Default Window Rubber

Cowl DIY added!

Here:
Here are the part numbers for the cowl. Keep in mind, these are for a sedan, but you get the idea. #8 (make sure to get both a left AND a right one) here: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...59&hg=51&fg=20

I went ahead and got new clamps and grommets (#s 12 and 13) too, just so that everything is new and fresh. I'd recommend doing this.

The install is pretty straightforward and easy:
***Note: the hood will need to be open for this to be done. It does NOT need to be put into what I have read as the "service position".
1. Take off windshield wiper caps and unscrew bolts
2. Take off wipers
3. Unclip the old rubber sealing (I cut mine to make it easier.)
4. Take out the old grommets (Don't put the new ones in yet!)
5. Clean and dry the area that the trim normally covers
6. Put in the new grommets
7. Put the new clamps on the trim
8. Slide the trim pieces on and clip them into place

I hope this clears everything up!

--I still have not figured out how to go about fixing the rear windshield seals. The rear glass almost certainly has to be removed. If anyone knows where/how to get this done, post it up!

The front cowl replacement only requires the wiper arms to be removed and the hood placed into the service position.

The rear window can be done without removal, but it is difficult and doesn't always grab (will pop out).

The front glass must be removed to replace the windshield seal.

Only use OEM regardless of what the installer tells you.

The cowl can be done without removing the glass. When you say "around my two windshields" that says the windshield seals.

Yeah I feel you. The windshield seal in the rear definitely needs to be replaced, and at least the cowl up front as well. The seal up front might need it, but I need to check that. I'll update you guys tomorrow.

I just did the rear one on mine, it was pretty easy. Getting ready to do the cowl soon.

The little corner pieces on my rear window are destroyed, but everything else seems fine.

Seems like a lot of us have this same issue. I'll try to do some research today to see what's up. I'll report back with where to buy the parts and how to get them installed.
