You guys who would decide to keep the money: Regardless of the contract, do you feel as though you've earned or deserve to keep the deposit? In a personal transaction like that, I would feel like a total jerk keeping the money.

I change my vote now after reading post 14. It was clearly stated non-refundable so of course the seller would keep the deposit.

HOWEVER, if I was the seller and the buyer knows where I live, work, etc, then I'd definitely give back a percentage and if the buyer's crazy then I'd give it all back lol.

This thread is about what YOU would do in this situation.. Not what the consummate fool on vortex should do.

If its in writing saying that there will be a refund if one backs out then give it back. If in writing it saying the opposite then to bad to the potential buyer but you will not be getting a refund and there is not a damn thing they can do about it.

If you give back the money that defeats the purpose of a deposit. If you're feeling nice and decide to give it back then props to you, but you should in no way feel obligated to.

I would personally keep it.

You wouldn't feel bad or guilty for keeping someone else's $500 because they changed their mind for whatever reason? The contract may entitle you to the money but it's not like you earned it.

I guess if I wasn't a broke college kid, I would be nice and give it back. However, in my current economic state I would keep it.
