Now, I took my car out when it is nice out today after having few days of rainy weather. Was driving a bit around the town and went on highway. As soon as I pull into exit ramp, I felt the differential thumping and causing my car to lurch forward and backward. The same symptoms I had with 3.64 differential with broken diff.
Looks like Ill be taking the differential out to take broken piece out of mounting hole and to reinstall the differential but with new 10.9 grade bolt. $15 dollars will be gone pretty soon. :thumbs down: On the top of that, I recently got an engine light and used a generic code reader to scan the code. It came up P1189. It says that the code is fuel control. Any ideas about this?

Atleast its a cheap fix. Could have been way worse.
Seems like the code means youve got a bad fuel air ratio.....check this out http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1745470

You just put a new diff in there what, within the last month? Did you use an old bolt or something? There's no way you broke a brand new bolt in less than a month of use. Get a brand new bolt, change out the diff bushings, especially the front one, and stop being so rough on the drivetrain. I beat the living piss out of my car and in 7 years of ownership, I've NEVER broken the diff bolt.

+100 on that! 5 years of ownership with me and Calvin whipping the ever living sheit out of my car and never a broken diff bolt. Only way that you are breaking the bolt again is if you are absolutely terrorizing that car and have. Bad diff bushings.

2 diff bolts in as many months? Something is wrong, and it is not the bolt. I don't care how hard you flog the car, people with WAY more HP than you don't break the bolts. What are you doing, redline drops?

How much torque are you putting down and what were you doing when it broke? I don't believe it is never redlined, being driven around at 2000 rpm and snapping diff bolts.

OMFG Sorry, but you act as though no one else has a SC on their car. Your car is no different than thousands of others that do not break diff bolts every other month. In fact you have far less power than dozens of guys that post on here and BF.c in the FI sections. Either you are doing something wrong in your driving or there is physically something wrong with the diff mounts or subframe.
