Default Nav Screen Fail

Gentlmen,

My stock nav screen recently went to black screen and Im trying to figure out the proper direction I need to go in order to fixing or replacing the proper part.

It all happened when I hit a slight bump, the nav screen and radio cut out and that was the end of that. I have a burnt Nav CD in the unit itself, and im wondering if thay may have been the catalyst.

One thing the unit is doing, is playing music. But the screen is still black and its stuck on one damn station and I cant control the volume or anything. So untill everything is fixed I just removed the fuse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Sorry I didnt mention before, but i did try a battery reset

Im pretty sure the fuse that I pulled that made the radio stop playing is in conjunction with the nav screen.

Thanks for the input

then perhaps its your BM53/54. i ran into a similar problem and changed it out. but also it doesnt hurt to check all connections. the ones on back of the nav as well as the ones on the BM53/54. these are costly, id check classifieds and fleabay before buying new.

its hard to say. seems like you have a display and sound problem. the bm53/54 is the pre-amp/fm controller. your FM will still play without the nav screen. but.. that fact you have no video is weird. the FM, controls, computer stuff comes from bm53/54 but the actual nav info comes from the computer (dvd/cd player).

if it were me, id find someone local and try to swap out the nav head unit and then the bm53/54. kinda tough to purchase these items to find out it was not the problem.

btw, where you located?

Im almost half tempted to take it to a dealer and pay the diag time for them to tell me what it is. Might be worth it in the long run.

perhaps an indy bmw shop could attempt to trouble shoot these issues. i not sure a dealer would go as far as to replace and not charge for the items if that didnt solve the issue.

but it wouldnt hurt to get a quote

I'm having the same problem with my 03 BMW M3, except mine was working fine when I parked my car at work. When I got out and got in the car the screen was dead, no back light or anything, the controls on the unit itself were lit, but none functioned in any way shape or form. I can change radio stations and volume with my steering wheel controls but thats it. Any ideas other than what has already been posted?
