The 1 series based 1M is the smallest sports sedan BMW makes, not the 3 series based M3. From the E46 M3 and back through past generations, the M3 has always been the smallest BMW sports sedan. That is no longer the case, hence the current M3 is a different animal altogether. I'd call it the best M6 ever.
TVR made a 400hp I6 for a while.

Yeah apparently small boutique English sports car makers can do what BMW can't.

the TVR Speed 6 engine was around before the E46 M3, with the introduction of the Tuscan

If they weren't so unreliable, I would love to own a TVR

TIL every car that weighs more than an E46 and uses added technology beyond what is needed to survive... Is a pig and is the beginning of the end of sports cars.

I've got my E92 next to an E90 M3 for a detail. I like everything about the E92 better, to be honest.

The Tuscan introduced the Speed 6 at 350hp with the top choice being 400hp for the MK1s

The MK2 allowed up to 440hp and 350ft/lb of torque

All of that stuffed into a Chassis that weighed 1,100kg

No ABS, no TCS, it was a pure sports car, but is highly underrated.

They weren't the most reliable, true, and the build quality is what you would expect from a British car, but that hasn't stopped people from paying a quarter million dollars for an Aston.

This will sound stupid but... I have never owned a 4 door sports sedan because I never had the need for one... when I had my e92 it was huge in the back, plenty of space! The e90 just flows nicely when lowered but the 4 doors I do not need. I just think it sits better on a nice set of wheels.
