Now the roundel goes on the bumper instead of hood. Is that progress?

Progress....hmmmm, I digress....

So, earlier this afternoon I was sitting at a famous bookstore B&N having a relaxing day after a very busy and hard day at work. Of course I was reading up on one of my favorite BMW Magazines in a very enthusiastic fashion.

There was one article that really stuck with me. They had done a driving comparison on the Cadilac CTS or some sorts, I dont remember exact model (this goes to show you how much of a BMW enthusiest I am, that I dont even remember the model of the contender) and the new BMW M5.

So, the part of the article that really stuck out for me was the part that reads that the BMW M5 just does not feel the same as the past generations.

Things were said of the M5 such as, it feels disconnected, it isolates the driver so much that you dont even hear the engine noise and they instead pump out engine noise through the audio system, too much electronics taking over for the driver, too little brake feedback, even though it is the faster car, it just does not feel faster.
In other words, the car is too soft and too watered down.

So, I ask you this.....is this progres?

Yes, No, depending on who you ask.

Yes: Technically, there is progress as the new M5's performance is greater than that of the E60 M5.

No: As has been established for decades, faster =/= better at the individual level. Just ask the e46 sexshun about faster = better.

What the reviewer of the M5 was saying is what the new M5 does not simultaneously deliver on both the technical and consumer satisfying levels as desired by the reviewer. Obviously, the technical side will suffice for some, but the negatives already aired about this new M5 are far greater than the negatives that surrounded the E60 M5. My guess is that annual sales average will be less than the annual average sales of the E60 M5.

I miss the integrated kidneys into the hood design that were on older BMWs (like my E70). One of my favorite aspects of BMW designs

Those things looked hideous when the hood was up; buck teeth look.

If there was a contest for best looking cars with their hoods open, this would be the winner.
