Default Glass mesh batteries

had the warning lights for battery dicharging overnight/low battery after a drive. tested by BMW - needed new battery. Close to US$1000.
1 what is so special about these batteries?
2.why does the car need 2 hours reprogramming from Munich?
not convinced by the plocal BMW staff answer.

Default Re: Glass mesh batteries

BMW requires AGM batteries for all the models that use regenerative braking.

Email Mike@ thebmwpartstore, I'm sure he sells this battery for a lot less

I think Autozone has an AGM battery also. Probably $150-$200. The ECU has to be recoded for the new battery, but this should not be more than an hour of labor at a dealer or BMW specialty shop. Free if you have a friend with a Bavarian Technic tool or similar advanced scan tool.
