I picked up some bulk oil from a seller on the forums and got a mix of TWS 10w60 and Edge 10w60. Both say that they are formulated for M engines.
However, the BMW part number on the Edge is different (83 12 2 219 730) and realoem.com indicates this to be for a BMW motorcycle (HP2 Sport K29). Now I know Castrol is in the midst of re-branding all their synthetic oils to EDGE and was wondering if some of you have started getting this oil from your dealers as well? They're not identical. Edge professional is rated API SM (vs. API SJ) and has a slightly lower viscosity
Even if you convert to 99 percent confidence, the difference is still outside the margin of error.

Did we ever get the Blackstone report for the base oil (EDGE Pro TWS 10w60)? If not, and some of you are interested, we can start a quick fund and I will send out a sample to Blackstone.
But based on people's feedback, both ECS and dealers are now selling the EDGE Pro TWS 10w60. I am inclined to say that while different, it should not impact the motor adversely if we do 5K mile oil changes. |

ECS lists it for $12.25 vs 13.44 for OE; but both are sold as Castrol EDGE Professional TWS 10w60.

TWS, unfortunately, has a dramatically lower pour point. It makes me wonder if the Edge Professional lost some of what made it special. Unfortunately, we don't have any real data.
