Default SMG Issue?

For some reason my car is activating the Automated mode on the SMG by itself. The little A on the bottom left corner of the display shows up. How do I get rid of that so I can be in pure sequencial mode? I tap the shift lever to the right and it goes into sequencial mode but then it imediately goes back into the Automated mode.

I just picked up my car yesterday (bought it used). It has the Dinan Software... don't know if that would influence anything.

I doubt the Dinan SW would influence anything, your best bet is to talk to your dealer. Unless someone here actually has had this problem, and has a solution.

I think I know what's wrong: when the A shows up to the right, that means that you ARE in sequential mode. It's there to tell u that if you move the stick to the right, THEN you will be in Auto mode...

that's how mine works. it is telling you where to go, so to speak, as opposed to where you are.

On the older models the A is there to give you the INDICATION that if you move the lever to the right, you will enguage AUTOMATIC MODE, known as D in the newer models. The M will be in SMG mode as soon as you touch any of the paddles anyway. If you are at all concerned, take it back to the dealer, get them to check it but make sure you make a list of questions so you dont leave anything out. Let us know how it turns out.

its just weird... when in A mode the car will not shift on its own... on the other hand when in S mode the car shifts on its own... its like if it were backwards... I am going to have to take it to the dealer.

When the A is in the bottom left corner it is auto mode. When there is nothing in the bottom left it is in S mode. There are countless threads on this topic do a search.

Yeah, I think your just confused... if the arrow is pointing to the A... you ARE in S mode... if the arrow is pointing to the S.. you are in Auto mode... it is weird how its set up... but germans are just a weird bunch. The arrow is simply indicating that you need to move the lever right to get into that mode. NOT that you are already in that mode, confusing I know.
