Default OEM E46 M3 Coupe H/K 6x9 Amp Crapped Out? Help...

Hey guys... I thought I blew one of my OEM 6x9's in my Harmon Kardon System in my E46 M3 Coupe. SO, I bought a pair of barely used Kicker 6x9 FreeAir Subwoofers and installed them, BUT they still don't play any music, so I think the amp that powers the 6x9's crapped out. Question... Is the amp that powers the 6x9's that little black box that is bolted to the back of the 6x9 enclosure? If so, can I replace that little amp with an aftermarket amp? What is the smallest and best aftermarket amp on the market that can replace my OEM H/K Amp without much modification or installation headaches? And if that is NOT the amp, what the hell is it? :nixweiss:

On a sidenote, does anyone have an OEM H/K Amp for sale, if it IS that little black box that is bolted to the back of the 6x9 enclosure?

:nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Sounds more like the H/K subwoofer amp is damaged.

Just an FYI but H/K speakers are unique and specially designed to work with their own amp. I think many of our customer and board members have tried the Kicker 6x9 subs which are actually free air units. they DO NOT work that well in the first place but with the variying impedance of the OEM amp, it's definitely going to do more damage than good.

If you want to keep that crappy H/K setup, just replace the whole thing.

I have 2 virtually brand new H/K sub with amp units in my garage.

PM me if interested

late,
rick

When I ship my car to Hawaii in May, I am going to install an entire new sound system... But for the next couple months, I would like to try and make do with something that at least works... The Kickers are 4 ohm speakers, and the H/K's are 2 ohm, so the Kickers just wouldn't put out what they should due to the higher ohms... That is ok though... I could just bridge the 6x9's and run them at 2 ohms... I will try the regular setup and the bridged setup once I get the amp problem solved, and see which way sounds/works better... So is the little black box attached to the 6x9 enclosure the 6x9 amp? If it is, I am looking to purchase one from someone, as long as the price is ok. I don't want to overpay for such a tiny amp...

If there are wires coming out of the black box you refer to then it is more than likely the amp. That is the most common location for factory amps.

So if you want to bridge them, just connect them together (+ to +) and (- to -) and then just connect 2 wires to one of them and leave the other wires floating, is that correct?

Is that working well for you?

Can I bridge the amp as well by connecting the - and + on the 2 channels and then connect the remaining 2 terminals to the bridged speakers?
