Default Got a ticket for stop sign? But I KNOW I didn't....

So I just got a ticket from a bike cop for running a stop sign. Here's the thing. I HAVE NO IDEA what he is talking about. It is around 8pm and it's pretty dark in a quiet street. There is a stop sign on EVERY block and I know this since this is my neighborhood.

However, the police said I ran the stop sign totally. I am more than confused because I honest to God did not remember running a stop sign. He pulled me over almost 2 blocks after. He stated I was going 10-15 mph through the stop sign. :nixweiss: Which makes no sense because I am usuallly driving it HARD but within speed limits (I'll go hard in 1st and just pop it into neutral for the rest of the block). So to imagine myself cruising 10-15 mph through a frickin intersection?!?! Wow. just wow.

Well, as of now, I am just dazed and confused because I just got a ticket for something I DO NOT remember doing. This is my 1st ticket in 7 yrs (I am 23. do the math). My other ticket for for "low and behold" running another stop sign was when I was 16 and just got my license. FUnny thing is, I didn't think I ran that stop sign either. WHAT IS UP WITH THIS?!?!

OK< had to rant a bit. I would pay $100 to have someone record me running that stop sign. It's just hard to swallow right now. And the cop was a d*ck as usual. Probably thought punk young kid driving an M3 thinking he can do whatever he wants on the road. AHH!

BTW, does anyone know how I can just pay the fine and do traffic school? The back of this ticket is so light and I can't read anything. I mean, I know I can't contest this because it's his word vs mine and we all know who wins those. What is my next step if I just want to pay the fine and go to traffic school?

Go to the "intersection" he got you at, or he said you ran through it. Take photos or take photos of EVERY block or intersection on the road you where on and fight it.

Actually.... I did that too. I was with the Air Force search and rescue doing transport and recon during 9/11 and for a while after. Once I was done with that nightmare I got my EMT license

I just do not see how this can prove anything. All I can say is blah blah blah but what will it be worth? Also, with work, I'd prefer to spend my PTO (paid time off) days off at vegas or hawaii. not in court. But if I have a good chance of winning, of course I'll go and hopefully contest it.

The thing is, if I ran the stop sign on purpose and got caught, then that's fine. I'll take the ticket and smike, but I seriously don't remember running it. Oh well. I'm more worried about my insurance over anything else but traffic school should handle the point. It's just a waiting game now.

I've heard a lot of people never realize they have run a stop sign. I think your method of going hard in first gear up to the speed limit and letting go was the breaker between a warning and a ticket. It makes a lot of noise.

I'd go to court. Yeah it's a couple hours out of your day, but if you go in you'll have a chance to either
A. Plead it down to a non moving violation.
or
B. At least get the option to go to defensive driving school and get it taken off your record.

Usually they are more than fair doing that as long as you ask respectfully about it, hell a judge offered the option to me. Since you're 23 you haven't gotten the insurance break for being over 25 yet, and I'm sure the last thing you want is higher insurance rates.

Good luck, man.

Jeff

(Also if the cop doesn't show up for court - then who is there to tesitfy against you if you say you didn't run it)
