No problem. I'll call tomorrow to see what I can do. My perception as a customer is that the dealers get a pretty good margin on BMW stuff. I'll post back to the thread as soon as I get some info.

Bob, count me in too please! I'm definitely interested in this, even if we only get night time illumination. Thanks for offering to help with this!

tlp-96M3/2, thanks for all your help in even identifying this as a possibility. If you can give some hints on how to even wire it up for static illumination, that would be outstanding.

PROFuzion, I am in the Mountain View area of the Bay. Group install would be great if we can find a good place - I'll drive a ways to get there, if necessary, though probably not all the way to Sac...

Thanks all - I'm pretty psyched about this.

Yeah me too. I just PM'd tlp-96M3/2 about how I might be able to help him to get a harness made that would allow easy installation. It's up to him to come up with a design. If it's do-able I have a guitar amplifier mfg. client I can approach about making them. That's assuming he doesn't want to do this part himself AND what demand might be. Let's see how it goes. This is HIS baby, I'm just trying to help (and I want one, too). :-)

Again, I'll post back to the thread on what I find out from the dealer on Monday.

Well guys, I don't have much good news so far. There was one (1) in the U.S. and Terry (tlp-96M3/2) bought it from Crevier BMW in Orange County in CA. I was told there are 14 somewhere in Europe. So far I have found that my price is 20% off retail of $220 ($176). I think there might better pricing than that just buying direct on the internet. I'll see what I can do about buying the 14 in Europe.

If this is the case, I'd just sell it at cost to try to get the price down and get one cheap for myself. I'm thinking this is a great time for a group buy if I can arrange it. If I find somewhere to buy it cheaper than my wholesale price I'll just post it for the group to use. Terry will probably sell an adapter at some point if he's motivated to make one to get the illumination functional. At this point it would only be a cosmetic knob upgrade and wouldn't put on the pretty light show. :-( Terry mentioned making the adapter available through my store if he gets it done. This is totally up to him and I would just be the medium to make the purchase.

I have some other calls in to wholesale depts. at other BMW dealerships, and I'll post again when I get more info. I'll also check on the accuracy of the stock. Hopefully, somebody somewhere in the U.S. has some.

Please remember...don't shoot the messenger.

Thanks for all the leg work! A group buy would be great. Maybe one of our European cousins can help hook us up.

My pleasure. I had a little more success with Pacific BMW. They will give me a better price than my local BMW dealership where I've bought/leased 7 cars and referred at least 3 or 4 clients.

So the price got better but availability is the same. We can get them from Europe but you have to prepay and it will take as much as 20 business days before the item is in. If you guys want, I'll arrange a group buy thru Pacific BMW and put an item on my web site so you can purchase thru me and I'll order thru Pacific BMW. I'll put it up for cost plus about $5.00 to cover the credit card processing fees I'll get charged. I'll also have to ask about shipping, and whether or not they can drop-ship to me from Europe. So, I'd need to add shipping costs. I don't mind doing a freebie here as far as profit goes, but I don't want to take a loss. I'll get the actual price from Pacific BMW tomorrow and, if there's interest, we can set up a group buy in the correct forum.

Please post here or PM me so I can get an idea of how many serious buyers there are. Maybe I can get some economies of scale going here and beg for an even better price (volume discount for non-accountant/econ major kinda guys )

Like Larry the Cable Guy we're gonna git'r done.

Bob
