Seriously, look at a 2001 or 2002 330ci. Good fast car. Plenty of class. Won't kill you financially. $35 hr is certainly not bad for 17 years old - but its no where near what people (typically) earn and make M3 lease / loan payments.

It's great to have dreams and aspirations; that's what drives us on in life. But you have to be realistic too. As much as you want to own an M3, just do the math (and be honest with yourself).....you can't really afford it, it's as simple as that.

I can't speak for other people, but I come from a relatively poor working-class background. I went to college, got a bachelor's and a doctorate in chemistry and work as a research scientist for a multinational corporation. Sounds impressive? But even I'm having to do a lot of soul-searching to decide whether I can afford a new M3 without making too many sacrifices(I'm married, but don't have any kids and almost own my own house outright).

Before choosing the M3 I looked long and hard at the Mitsubishi Evolution......much cheaper, a well-respected performance car etc.etc. I would still love to own an Evo but decided on the M3.

An analogy to your plight would be me lusting after a Ferrari (which I've always wanted to own since I was a kid). I could probably justify it to myself as being a logical decision and maybe just about afford to buy one.....but it wouldn't make financial sense and I wouldn't really enjoy it knowing I was living on the bread-line just to afford a car.

I say you get your dream car. I just hope you know that it can kill you if you dont respect it. Sometimes we need a little motivation to excel in life. I got mine and things are turning out a lot better, a present I got myself to help broden my horizens.

As to for your questions.

Gas will tear you a new one and thats not taking the current $$$ spikes into consideration. If you do get this car you will never keep it under 12k miles a year. You will joy ride this ***** every night. I ordered mine in may and got it in july. 4875miles on the clock (july)-(oct)
If you appreciate he car for what it is, then it will hurt you to get her dirty.
cleaning supplies are $$$$, well you get what you pay for. I shelled out about $950 in supplies but she looks cleaner than the day she was born.

The car gets serviced for oil at 15K miles but if you plan on keeping it you'll want to change it every 7500miles.

extra charges will be tag title (gas guzzler $1000) Take my car for example
$47,8xx + options and charges= $65k-discount.

Thank you, both of you you guys

Owwie, that is quite a lot of money I definately do NOT have. I think rather than getting a NEW M I can just settle for used. I mean a 2001 Can go for like $35,000 Semi-okay condition right? Do the 2002's have any known, wide scaled problems associated with that year?

Well, I know there are other things to consider, and I know not every tune up or checkup with be free with the car. I know if I were to buy new and the new E92 M came out I would probably be ticked if it does infact look as stunning as the current one does.

How about my financial situation? If people are going to tell me to not to do one thing, what am I going to do with the money? Buy the house of my dreams in Valencia as well? (well not really pay that off with my dad as well + roommate) I want to know what I can do with the money that would benefit me then since the M would only hurt me you know? Is there some taxes I can write off with the houses mortgage or anything like that to then later on down the road I can use to justify the purchase of a car like the M or is there really nothing to do but save for something I'm unable to attain without the aid of a parent, and something I have no idea I want.

$65,000? Jeez!

with the options I want (Premium + Nav) is like $55,000, +1000, +tax (8.25%)= $60,620

Used would so much be a feasible option.

Btw kilo, Hemingway is a spectacular author.

Thanks guys again

im 17 years old and trust me, u do not need or want an e46 m3. buy either a used e46 3 series or an e36 m3. if you buy the m3 you will end up working hell of hard just to make enough to pay off your debts. what you need to do is sit down and make sure its dead silent and think to yourself...."do i REALLY need this.....am i ready for this responsibility?........can i really afford it....

i didnt read thru ur whole post abouve but it seems like u want to pay like what 60k? thats double wat some people make a year!!!!! how the hell are u gonna pay for that making 8 bucks and hour?

basically just buy one of the cars i mentioned wait a few years...trade in ur car and put some money down and get the new one.

whatever your end decision, i hope all goes well

GOODLUCK

There is just no helping this kid. Ok buy the M3. You can always sell it for a $7K loss. But get yourself a nice pillow you'll probably be sleeping in it.

You are a very intelligent kid and I mean that kindly since I'm old enough to be your father. I too had all these thoughts when I was your age and I tried to justify any response to suit my craving. In the end I realized that if I'm to get anywhere in life I have to put some of my wants aside and pay attention to the needs.

Have you considered that a new one will cost over $60K and a used about $40K? That means you would owe your aunt between 20-40 thousand dollars. At $200 a month it will take you over 8 years to pay her $20K. Do you want to burden her and yourself with such a debt? Then we have gas, insurance (which you have underestimated), tires at $1000+ a set, $150 oil changes, $1500 tune ups and the list goes on. A used one may sound good but that means you will not have a service contract and have to pay for everything. You would have to live at home for the next 10 years to pay for this car.

If you buy this car I promise you that in a year or two you will realize that you can not afford it and then have to turn around and sell it but now you are in a hole and have to dig your way out again. Keep working and saving your money. Passion is a wonderful driving force but gluttony will only lead to your demise.
