Default Retrofitted bluetooth in 04 with assist...voice nav control?

I got the newer TCU in my 04 coupe. Works GREAT including the voice dial. Don't know how I did with out it.

I did get a manual for control and in the back it has additional voice commands, such as:

For nav:
scale 400 feet etc.
gas station current location
gas station at destination
navigation
save position

General commands:
vol up
vol down

Notepad:
record note
record memo
play note

I can't seem to get these to work. Anyone get these to function?

if u have the newer TCU(assist/bluetooth) they dont work. u have to either have the ULF module (bluetooth/voice command), or get the voice command module.

From what I understand the newer TCU has the voice built in no?

I can voice dial and store names in the voice phone book to dial numbers by voice command. I can also just speak the numbers by hitting the talk button then speak the numbers...

The VC in the newer TCU's is limited to phone commands... and to be honest with you, I have the SES module with full VC commands and the Nav commands are seldom used because they are not that useful anyways.

You are missing nothing...

How much did it cost, both for the parts and to install?

I have a early '05, bluetooth works like a charm with my phone, but voice command does nothing as far as voice dialing etc... At what point did voice command become included?

I had it done at the dealer...so I got raped:O

My service guy I actually like. I emailed him the thread on here that had the part numbers and he ordered the parts. He also then informed me that the old TCU number had been superceded by an updated one. This is the one with voice and allows the assist to still be active.

Total was around $1100 I believe.

I try not to think about it that much

Also, as a side note, there was an old thread about swapping the mic with the sunroof switch. The service guy stated that the holes did not match and didn't recommend the switch. After trying it out, everyone said I sounded fine to them in the car.

I read somewhere that it became standard around May of '05. My '05 was an Jan '05 build so it didn't include it. BUT I had some BMW assist (more like ASS-it) problems and they replaced the TCU with the newer one with Voice commands.. You could try taking it to the dealer saying that the "red light on the assist comes on". Mine basically stayed on the whole time and I couldnt dial assist at all so they had to replace it. There's a TSB on it that my service record refers to.

anyone know the number of the tcu/ulf or whatever part number I need to keep the assist and get bluetooth on my 04? I already know the part number for the one that switches from assist to BT. (i dont have nav) I have a buddy who works for bmw and can probably get me the parts I need for cost (as long as he/bmw can order them).
