Default Parking Brake

Has anybody had problems with their parking brakes? I have a 02 Cab and I had to take my car into the dealer in Feb. when my the rear left brake started "screeeeeching". It sounded like there was a stone stuck between the brake pad and the rotor...it turned out to be that the shoe(?) of the parking brake had come loose. The dealer fixed it and I've been driving it for 2 months. Yesterday, I was driving and I hear the same sound. Being a realtor (yes, I know this is not the best car to use in my business), I need to drive clients around today and tomorrow and I'm praying that the car will behave.

Anybody had similar problems?

Yes! I have a Silver 2001 Cab. and I am having the same (or VERY similar) problem. My parking brake seems to be grabbing on the left rear tire and sounds exactly like something is caught between the rotor and the brake. I've taken it to one dealer who said they couldn't find anything and just to 'burnish' the brake by applying it while moving slowly to a stop. It didn't fix it. I'm trying another dealer tomorrow. I hope it won't cause permanent damage?

Took it to the second dealer yesterday. Murphy's law -- they heard nothing. I drove it with them for 15 minutes and could not repeat it. Today, it's back. It sounds like the retaining spring is loose and the brake is dragging...?

When I took my car to the dealer, they could not replicate the problem either and the next day it was back. They would not even take the wheel off to look to see if everything is okay unless they can replicate it. They said BMW will not pay for it. I think this is ridiculous.

I had the exact same experience with two dealers. I can pretty much tell them EXACTLY what and where the problem is and they still won't pull off the wheel.

I think this is ridiculous after paying 60K for a car...sometimes it's too late after it breaks down. Especially when we're talking about brakes. I had a big fight with the guy at the dealer and when I went back the next time, he was no longer working there. He must have had problems with other clients there.
